About Our Academy / College

Our Academy, The Faculty of Homeopathy Malaysia was the only  TCM and Alternative Medical College was established on 10th April 1979 when the founder Prof Dr Nik Omar bin Haji Nik Daud among others, pioneered the use of homeopathy and acupuncture as alternative medical treatment among the Malays within Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.

For the recognition and development of alternative medicines in Malaysia especially homeopathy, acupuncture, Malay Medicine, Hijamah (Bekam) to reach at present state, great efforts had to be made, most important of them behnd the scenes. At every step on the road to progress there were impediements. Professional rivalry from Western Medicines had been the heaviest stumbling block throughout 30 years of our struggles.

In society, overwhelmingly dominated by Western Medicine, it was virtually unthinkable to expect any support for alternative medicine from any quarter. Surely, nothing worthwhile is ever accomplished over night. The history of alternative and complementary medicines in Malaysia especially homeopathy and acupuncture, carries with its accomplishment, along history of 30 years struggles of devoted studies and service of a man that was full of determination to succeed under all circumstances. He literally started from a scratch, dedicated himself to mission of development and recognition of alternative medicines in Malaysia.

Dr Nik Omar completed his studies in Pakistan Homeopathic College and Trust Hospital in 1975 and further his studies at London Foot Hospital, England for two years. While at London, he has set up his private clinic and became the adviser to Malaysian students in England under Encik Farid Hamid MARA officer at Malaysian High Commission.

In 1977 he came back to Malaysia and started his own private clinic at his home City of Kota Bharu, Kelantan. At that time homeopathy and alternative medicines in Malaysia was only little known, but also very much frowned upon.

Many thinks that it is a form of medical treatment based on herbs, similar to that practised by the Chinese Sinsehs. Others presume it is concerned with Indian traditional method of healing and therefore has elements of occult. Few realise that homeopathy is actually a well developed system of medicines based on a strong scientific universal law of cure " let likes be trated by likes.

At the same time, he also practise Chinese Acupuncture as 'Integrated Medicine' in his holistic clinic. He weathered many a storm, but nothing could deter him from reaching his goal. In 1979 he succeded his his alternative medical college by the name of 'The Faculty of Homeopathy Malaysia'. With 7 pioneer student in 1979, today 2007 the college has produced more than 5,000 student from more than 30 countries throughout the world.
